Hyderabad: Telangana will launch a dedicated Tourist Police unit to provide security at major tourism spots across the state, Director General of Police Dr. Jitender, IPS, announced on Wednesday. The Tourism Department is coordinating the initiative, which will deploy 80 personnel in the first phase. Authorities plan to make the force fully operational by World Tourism Day on September 27.
The Tourist Police will be posted at key destinations including Ananthagiri, Somasila, Ramappa, Yadagirigutta, Pochampally, Nagarjunasagar, Buddhavanam, Bhadrachalam, and Amrabad. Dr. Jitender confirmed that the Police Department will work closely with the Tourism Department to support and secure tourism activity across the state.
Telangana Tourist Police to manage film shoots and events
The DGP urged the Tourism Department to create standard operating procedures for granting shooting permits and organising public events. With clear guidelines, the police can ensure timely deployment for crowd control and site security. Dr. Jitender also asked film producers and event managers to inform the police in advance to avoid lapses in coordination.
Tourism Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan stated that the Telangana Tourist Police would protect visitors at spiritual, medical, and recreational sites. This move, he said, would help boost domestic and international tourist inflow.
The announcement followed a high-level coordination meeting held at the DGP office. Law & Order Additional DGP Mahesh M. Bhagwat, Tourism Department MD V. Kranti, Film Development Corporation MD Ch. Priyanka, Hyderabad Additional Commissioner of Police Vikram Singh Mann, Multi Zone-II IGP Tafseer Iqbal, Cyberabad Joint Commissioner of Police Gajarao Bhupal, Rachakonda DCP Indira, AIG Ramana Kumar, and other senior officials were present.
