Hyderabad: TPCC president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud on Wednesday accused the BJP of distorting the history of Telangana’s merger and weakening democratic institutions. He said the BJP had no role in the freedom struggle or in Hyderabad’s integration with India.
While addressing Telangana Merger Day celebrations at Gandhi Bhavan, Goud alleged that the Modi government was manipulating the Election Commission. He stated that democracy was under threat. “They are trying to rewrite history, but the facts speak for themselves,” he said.
He also paid tribute to leaders and people’s warriors who fought against the Nizam. Goud recalled the efforts of Ramananda Tirtha, Burgula Ramakrishna Rao, Komaram Bheem, and Chakali Ailamma. According to him, the Congress played a decisive role in merging Hyderabad with India, led by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Congress hailed for Hyderabad merger and governance legacy
Goud underlined the Congress party’s tradition of sacrifice. He said Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi had chosen not to accept the Prime Minister’s post, instead supporting Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Moreover, he praised the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government in Telangana. Referring to free bus travel for women and fine rice supply, he called on the public to back the Congress and preserve its legacy.
