HYDERABAD: In light of the Peddagattu Jathara festival scheduled from February 16 to 20, authorities have announced traffic diversions on National Highway 65 (NH-65) to manage the anticipated influx of devotees and ensure smooth vehicular movement. The festival, considered the second-largest in Telangana after Medaram, is expected to draw significant crowds near Durajpalli in Suryapet district.
To facilitate the event and minimize congestion, the following traffic diversions will be in effect:
– For vehicles traveling from Hyderabad to Vijayawada: Traffic will be diverted at Narketpalli, directing vehicles through Nalgonda, Miryalaguda, Huzurnagar, and Kodad before rejoining NH-65 towards Vijayawada.
– For vehicles traveling from Vijayawada to Hyderabad: Traffic will be diverted at Kodad, guiding vehicles through Huzurnagar, Miryalaguda, Nalgonda, and Narketpalli before rejoining NH-65 towards Hyderabad.
– For vehicles traveling from Hyderabad to Khammam: Traffic will be diverted at Tekumatla onto National Highway 365BB, facilitating movement towards Khammam.
These measures aim to alleviate congestion on NH-65 during the festival period. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and adhere to the prescribed routes to ensure a smooth travel experience. Authorities have also set up additional signage and deployed personnel to assist drivers in navigating the diversions.
The Peddagattu Jathara, also known as the Gollagattu Jathara, is a biennial event held in honor of the deity Lingamanthula Swamy. The Telangana government has allocated funds to support the festival’s arrangements, anticipating attendance from devotees across various states. Enhanced security measures, including the deployment of police personnel and installation of surveillance systems, have been implemented to ensure the safety and well-being of attendees.
