Hyderabad: Tribal women from Lagacherla village tied Rakhi to BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Friday, thanking him for his role in halting forced land acquisition in their region.
Led by Jyothi of Rotibanda Thanda, the women visited Rama Rao in Hyderabad to express gratitude for his intervention during their standoff with the government over agricultural lands in Kodangal. Jyothi, who was pregnant during the protests, said she faced police threats after her husband’s arrest. Despite the pressure, she said Rama Rao stood by them throughout.
The women credited KTR with escalating their case to Delhi, submitting petitions to the National Scheduled Tribes Commission and National Human Rights Commission. They said his support ensured legal aid for all detained villagers and helped secure their release.
Jyothi said Rama Rao treated her like a sister and named her daughter Bhoomi Nayak in tribute to their struggle. “He is like a brother to every woman in need across Telangana,” she said after tying the Rakhi.
