Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) earned ₹110 crore during Bathukamma and Dasara festivals from special bus services, the management announced on Saturday.
Lower response than expected
TSRTC had planned to operate 7,754 special buses this festive season but managed to run only 5,300 due to weaker-than-expected passenger response. Officials said the buses were deployed from Hyderabad to districts and Andhra Pradesh, with about 50 percent extra fares charged. In some cases, city buses were diverted to meet the demand for long-distance travel.
Comparison with last year
Last year, TSRTC ran 6,300 special buses for Dasara, generating ₹114 crore in revenue. This year’s earnings fell short by about ₹4 crore. Officials attributed the decline to passengers opting for private and personal vehicles instead of public transport.
Return trip plan
For the return journey, TSRTC announced it would operate additional buses on October 5 and 6 depending on passenger rush.
