Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has directed seed companies to clear pending payments to cotton farmers in Jogulamba Gadwal district within one month.
Speaking at a review meeting held at the Secretariat on Monday, Tummala said cotton is grown across nearly 50,000 acres in Gadwal. He noted that despite the lapse of several months, companies have yet to fulfil payment obligations.
₹700 Crore in Unpaid Dues
The Minister said firms owe farmers an estimated ₹700 crore for cotton seed supplied during the last cycle. He stressed that the government will not tolerate delays that jeopardise farmers’ livelihoods.
“Gadwal farmers are national leaders in cotton seed production,” he said. “They are a source of pride, and their contribution must be respected with timely payment.”
Tummala pointed out that both cultivators and agricultural workers in the region are facing financial hardship due to the delay. He instructed seed companies to process all outstanding bills without further excuses.
Government Pledge to Protect Farmer Interests
The Minister reiterated that the state government remains committed to protecting farmer interests and will take all necessary steps to ensure accountability from private firms operating in the agriculture sector.
He warned that continued non-compliance would invite serious action from the state.
