HCU land auction

HYDERABAD: Union Minister Kishan Reddy has addressed a letter to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, urging the state government to withdraw its notification for the auction of 400 acres of land located in Gachibowli, associated with the Hyderabad Central University (HCU).

In his letter, Kishan Reddy highlighted that the proposed land is part of the HCU campus, which is home to rich biodiversity, including deer, peacocks, and numerous bird species. He emphasized the need to preserve this ecological wealth and expressed concerns that proceeding with the auction could lead to environmental degradation.

Kishan Reddy also recalled that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had previously opposed the sale of government lands. He urged the Chief Minister to maintain consistency with his earlier stance and reconsider the decision to auction the HCU land.

Student unions within the university have also voiced their opposition to the government’s decision, organizing protests against the proposed auction. They argue that the land serves as a vital green space and plays a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance of the area.

In the legislative assembly, BJP MLAs have joined the chorus of opposition, demanding that the government retract its decision to auction the land. They contend that preserving such spaces is essential for environmental conservation and the well-being of future generations.
