Hyderabad: The Telangana Urdu Academy has increased interim financial aid to ₹25,000 for the families of deceased Urdu journalists, following a demand by the Telangana Urdu Working Journalists’ Federation.
The move comes after condolence events held last week for veteran journalists Sheikh Naseeruddin of Daily Munsif and Syed Qadir Mohiuddin Waheed Qadri of Rashtriya Sahara and Ruby Channel. Initially, the Urdu Academy had offered ₹20,000 to each family as part of its standard support.
Urdu Academy journalist relief enhanced after Federation request
During the memorial meetings, Federation members appealed for a hike in the compensation amount. Assistant Director V. Krishna acknowledged the request and assured that the Chairman would review it.
Subsequently, Urdu Academy Chairman Taher Bin Hamdan approved the revised amount. The decision was implemented immediately.
The Urdu Academy journalist relief sum was presented to Sheikh Imtiyaz, son of the late Sheikh Naseeruddin, at the Academy’s Haj House office. Officials will deliver the cheque to Waheed Qadri’s family at their residence in the coming days.
The cheque presentation was attended by Federation President M.A. Majid, General Secretary Syed Ghouse Mohiuddin, and Assistant Director V. Krishna. The gesture has drawn praise from the Urdu media community, who viewed it as a meaningful step toward recognising the contributions of deceased journalists.
This revised support is expected to set a precedent for future welfare assistance across the media sector.
