Hyderabad: Urea shortage likely to worsen across Telangana, warned BRS MLA and former minister Jagadish Reddy on Thursday. He accused the state government of failing to act and blamed some ministers for enabling black market operations.
Urea shortage likely to worsen, state ministers blamed for black marketing: Jagadish Reddy
Speaking to the media at the BRS district office in Nalgonda, Jagadish Reddy said farmers were going without food and sleep, desperately trying to procure urea for their crops. He warned that the crisis, ongoing for over a month, could escalate further in the coming days.
“If a farmer spends ₹20,000 per acre, everything depends on a single bag of urea,” he said. “But the current government has shown zero concern. There’s no serious review, no preparation, and no relief for farmers.”
He contrasted the current situation with the previous BRS regime. “KCR used to store fertilizer stocks during summer and hold regular seasonal reviews. Farmers never faced such shortages under our watch,” he said.
Reddy alleged that some ministers and officials were intentionally creating the shortage to extract commissions. He accused them of diverting urea into the black market, saying, “Even in the past, a Nalgonda minister took cuts in food grain purchases and abandoned farmers.”
Former MLAs Gadari Kishore Kumar, Kancharla Bhupal Reddy, and other BRS leaders joined the press meet, echoing his concerns.
