HYDERABAD: Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt N Uttam Kumar Reddy strongly criticized BRS leader Harish Rao, accusing him of making false allegations regarding the state’s water crisis. He placed the blame squarely on the previous BRS government for mismanaging water resources and causing hardships for farmers.
Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, Uttam Kumar Reddy highlighted that Telangana had produced more paddy during the Kharif season than during the united Andhra Pradesh era. He further stated that Rabi cultivation is expected to surpass 55 lakh acres and assured that the Congress government is supplying water as per its action plan.
BRS Accused of Water Mismanagement
Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that BRS’s reckless policies regarding the Krishna and Godavari rivers have led to the current water crisis. He criticized the previous government for allowing Andhra Pradesh to build infrastructure to extract excess water and even committing 512 TMC from the Krishna River in writing.
He asserted that after Congress came to power, efforts were made to rectify these issues. He also blamed BRS for the water crisis in the Godavari basin and called the failure to construct the Tummidihatti project a significant loss for Telangana.
Concerns Over Medigadda Project
Uttam Kumar Reddy cited an NDSA report, warning that if safety measures were not taken at Medigadda, entire villages could be at risk of submersion. He reiterated his demand that Harish Rao stop misleading people with allegations against the Congress government and instead acknowledge BRS’s past mistakes.
