HYDERABAD: Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy shared a home-cooked meal with a beneficiary family in Suryapet on Friday evening, as part of the ongoing implementation of Telangana’s ambitious Free Fine Rice Scheme. The lunch, prepared using high-quality fine rice provided under the scheme, was hosted by Paladugu Bujjamma and Venkataiah at their residence in Ward II of Suryapet town.
The visit formed part of a broader statewide initiative in which public representatives are visiting the homes of beneficiaries to dine with them and celebrate the scheme’s rollout. The Free Fine Rice Scheme was officially launched on March 30, coinciding with Ugadi, in the Huzurnagar constituency. Since then, the programme has been welcomed with enthusiasm across Telangana.
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that 3.10 crore people – approximately 84% of the state’s population – would receive 6 kg of fine rice free of cost every month. He described the initiative as a demonstration of the state government’s commitment to ensuring food security and welfare for all.
He also announced that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy would be joining a beneficiary family for a meal in Bhadrachalam on April 6, after taking part in the Sri Sita Rama Kalyanam celebrations on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami.
“Public representatives from every part of Telangana are participating by dining with beneficiaries to express our collective commitment to this welfare initiative,” Uttam Kumar Reddy said. “There can be no greater assurance of food security than providing free, high-quality rice to the poor. This is a major step towards achieving that goal.”
The minister reaffirmed that the government is determined to ensure that every underprivileged family in the state receives quality fine rice at no cost, calling it one of the most significant welfare programmes currently being implemented.
