Hyderabad: Irrigation, Food & Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday directed officials to finish building the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Kodad within one year, halving the original two-year schedule.
He chaired a high-level review meeting at his camp office to push for faster execution of the ₹50 crore Central Government project. Although the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) approved a two-year timeline, the Minister said the school must open to students within a year.
To meet that goal, Reddy reviewed building designs, construction layouts, and timelines. He told officials to use all 19.12 acres near KRR Degree College effectively. The layout must include academic blocks, hostels, staff housing, and recreation areas. He also stressed that the buildings should reflect architectural excellence and support a student-friendly atmosphere.
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Kodad to open in one year, says Minister
Kodad MLA N Padmavathi urged changes in the layout to better suit student safety and comfort. She asked officials to prioritise child-friendly features. Suryapet Collector Tejas Nand Lal, NVS Deputy Commissioner Abhijit Bera, JNV Khammam Principal K Srinivasulu, and NBCC DGM Abdul Raheem also joined the meeting.
The NVS headquarters has already finalised tenders. Construction is expected to begin shortly. The District Collector assured full logistical support, including land readiness and availability of materials.
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, launched in 1986 by then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, provide free CBSE education to rural children. The Kodad campus will follow this model, offering English-medium, fully residential education from Class 6 to 12. It will admit 80 students each year and provide all essentials free of cost including boarding, uniforms, books, and stationery.
Each school day will include a morning assembly, regular classes, afternoon remedial sessions, and supervised evening study hours. As per NVS policy, the District Collector will chair the Vidyalaya Management Committee.
