Dehradun, January 27: Uttarakhand officially implemented the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) on Monday, becoming the first state in India to do so. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made the announcement at an event held at the Chief Minister’s residence, marking the fulfilment of a significant electoral promise made three years ago.

The programme, organised at the Chief Sevak Sadan within the CM’s residence, saw the unveiling of the regulations and an online portal for public access. The portal, accessible at [https://ucc.uk.gov.in](https://ucc.uk.gov.in), has been launched to facilitate public participation and provide comprehensive information regarding the UCC.

Describing the moment as deeply emotional, CM Dhami stated, “This is a historic occasion for our state. We had promised the people of Uttarakhand to bring the Uniform Civil Code, and today, we have delivered on that commitment. The team has worked with great dedication and perseverance to achieve this.”

The CM further highlighted the broader implications of the Uniform Civil Code, asserting that its implementation would foster uniformity in society. It aims to provide equal rights and responsibilities for all citizens in the state, promoting a sense of unity and fairness.

With this development, Uttarakhand has become the first state in independent India to enforce the Uniform Civil Code.
