Politicians must show restraint in language: Venkaiah Naidu

Hyderabad: Former Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu said public representatives must speak with dignity and responsibility, cautioning politicians against using inappropriate language in public discourse.

Speaking at the launch of Merger-Division: Mana Mukhyamantrilu by senior editor Inaganti Venkat Rao at the Basheerbagh Press Club on Tuesday, Naidu expressed concern over the language used by political leaders and some YouTube journalists. He said language remains a critical part of journalism and public life.

Naidu called on political leaders to correct their tone and respect standards of civil speech. He said newspapers serve as a mirror to society and must reflect reality with responsibility. Addressing the audience, he recommended the book to the youth, claiming it would give them insight into the leadership and governance styles of past chief ministers.

Reflecting on personal milestones, Naidu said he had wept only twice in his life—once remembering his late mother, and again when he was made Vice-President, a role that pulled him out of active politics. He said he had not stepped into his party office since assuming that position.

State Media Academy Chairman K. Srinivas Reddy praised Inaganti Venkat Rao’s contribution to journalism, calling him an inspiration for new generations. He said Rao’s book offers more insight than many political novels.

Reddy also lauded Naidu’s long public career, describing his rise to national leadership as a reflection of his discipline and ability. He recalled the oratorical skill of both Venkaiah Naidu and late Jaipal Reddy during their time in the Assembly.

The event was attended by several senior journalists including Katta Shekhar Reddy, Bandaru Srinivas, and the author Inaganti Venkat Rao.
