Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader and former MP V Hanumantha Rao on Monday accused the Telangana BJP of misleading people before local elections. He said the party had no right to speak about September 17. He also charged that BJP used the occasion only for political gains.

Hanumantha Rao said September 17 was a merger, not a liberation. He criticised BJP leaders for twisting history to suit their agenda. He alleged that BJP thrives on creating divisions between castes and religions.
“BJP leaders hold umbrellas only when there is no sun. Spreading hate speeches and conspiracies has become their habit. Telangana people, however, are aware and cannot be fooled,” he said.
BJP prepares for Telangana Liberation Day event
Meanwhile, Telangana BJP is preparing to celebrate September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad. The Union Ministry of Culture will organise the event.
Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Bandi Sanjay will attend, along with Maharashtra ministers and state BJP leaders. In addition, the party will unveil a statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Cantonment Park near Parade Grounds.
