Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader and former MP V. Hanumantha Rao on Wednesday met HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath and requested the civic body to take full responsibility for maintaining Batukamma Kunta in Amberpet.
In his representation, VH praised the recent transformation of the lake and surrounding area, calling it a model development effort. He noted that the lake had been revived from encroachment, beautified, and formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He stressed that HYDRAA should now oversee its regular maintenance to prevent neglect and preserve the lake’s current appeal.
VH urges continuation of boating, visitor management
Calling Batukamma Kunta a new tourist spot, VH said the lake has drawn hundreds of visitors daily since its inauguration. He asked HYDRAA to continue the boating facility and protect the area’s natural charm, especially ahead of next year’s Bathukamma festivities.
VH suggested that HYDRAA fix official visitor and walking hours, display them clearly at the entrance, and assign round-the-clock watchmen. He also raised concerns about past misuse of the area by garbage trucks and urged officials to designate alternate parking zones for them. Additionally, he requested regulated parking for visitor vehicles to avoid chaos around the site.
Congress leader Narayanaswamy also accompanied VH during the meeting with the Commissioner.
