Hyderabad: GHMC BGUS coordinate for Vinayaka Chavithi preparations to ensure peaceful and well-managed celebrations in Hyderabad. GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan chaired a meeting at the GHMC headquarters on Monday with BGUS members, police, and civic officials. The festival will run from August 27 to September 6.
Karnan said GHMC, police, and other departments will work together to host the festival in a grand manner, just like last year. Crews have already started repairing rain-damaged roads, and highways on procession routes will also be restored. He announced that the city will deploy more cranes than last year for faster and smoother immersion, as advised by the police.
He assured BGUS that funds will not be a problem, with more budget allocated for logistics and festival works. Zonal coordination meetings will address past shortcomings to avoid inconvenience for devotees.
Additional CP (Law and Order) Vikram Singh Mann advised organisers to use quality materials, wiring, and logistics for pandals, especially with the risk of heavy rains. He urged them to follow route maps and idol height limits to prevent traffic issues. He also suggested installing at least one CCTV at each mandapam, placing three volunteers at large venues, and creating separate visitor routes. Timely processions from major mandapams, including Khairatabad and Balapur, would help smooth the immersion process, he added.
Earlier, BGUS members proposed measures to improve the festival. Senior officials from the Traffic Police, HMDA, HMRL, TSRTC, Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda Police, along with representatives from Fire, Irrigation, Tourism, Health, Pollution Control Board, and Transco, also joined the meeting.
