Vinod Kumar urges action to secure annual toll pass for Telangana motorists

Hyderabad: Former Karimnagar MP Boinapally Vinod Kumar has urged the Congress government to act swiftly to ensure Telangana motorists can access the annual toll pass scheme under FASTag.

He said the state risks losing the benefit because the database of private vehicles has not yet been uploaded to the Vahan portal, which is managed by the central government. To qualify, owners of cars and jeeps must have their vehicle registration numbers and driving licence details uploaded to the Vahan and Sarathi portals.

Vinod Kumar explained that the scheme allows 200 toll gate crossings a year for a flat fee of ₹3,000. The facility takes effect nationwide from August 15. He noted that all other states have already linked their private vehicle details to the portals, while Telangana remains the only state pending.

Citing a letter from Union Transport Secretary Umashankar to the Telangana Chief Secretary, Vinod Kumar pressed the government to pay immediate attention. He demanded urgent steps to upload all state vehicle data to the central portals so that Telangana residents can also benefit.

“This is a low-cost, high-value facility for motorists. The state should not deny its people access due to administrative delays,” he said.
