Hyderabad: Ministers Vivek Venkatswamy and Damodar Rajanarsimha on Sunday inspected the Sigachi Chemical Factory at Pashamilaram in Sangareddy district after a blast left 12 dead and 26 injured.
Labour Minister Vivek Venkatswamy ruled out a reactor explosion, attributing the blast to air dryer pressure. He warned against turning the tragedy into a political issue. He said the district Collector and Superintendent of Police reached the factory within 15 minutes and took up rescue work.
Locals were alerted soon after the accident, and the injured were shifted to hospitals. Vivek reported that 12 people were in critical condition and receiving improved medical care, while 22 others had minor injuries and were expected to recover. He noted the final death toll would be confirmed after clearing the debris.
Venkatswamy said an inquiry was underway to fix responsibility, promising strong action against those at fault. He added that the state would coordinate with the factory management to arrange ex-gratia payments for the workers and assured support through government channels.
Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha, who spent nearly three hours overseeing rescue efforts, described the accident as deeply tragic. He said the government responded without delay and that around 90 workers had been present during the blast. Identities of the deceased would be made public after confirmation, he added. Rajanarsimha also appealed to refrain from politicising the matter.
