Hyderabad: Mines and Labour Minister Vivek Venkataswamy on Saturday flagged off a 3K run organised by Glendale International School at Sun City, Hyderabad, to commemorate World Sparrow Day.
Speaking at the event, the minister highlighted the ecological importance of sparrows and warned that their declining numbers reflect deeper environmental issues. “Sparrows play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance. Their disappearance is a signal we cannot ignore,” he said.
Vivek Venkataswamy urged the public to cultivate habits such as planting trees and providing food and water for birds. He stressed the need for environmental awareness programmes in schools to instill a conservation mindset from an early age.
He also lauded Glendale School for organising the event and spreading a meaningful message. The minister was accompanied by his wife Sarojana during the programme.
