Hyderabad: A staged kidnapping in Warangal turned into a brief but dramatic episode after police uncovered that a youth faked his abduction to avoid repaying heavy debts from online betting.
The case involved Adil Soni, a resident of the Kottawada area. He reportedly lost around ₹8 lakh on betting platforms and faced mounting pressure from creditors. In a desperate move, he allegedly staged his own kidnapping to demand ransom from his family.

According to police, Soni called his father, Ashok Soni, and claimed he had been abducted. He said his captors were demanding ₹8 lakh for his release. Alarmed, his father approached Mattewada police, who registered a kidnapping case and began tracking the caller’s location.
Using mobile signal tracking, the police located Adil within three hours. When questioned, he admitted to staging the abduction in an attempt to raise money for clearing his debts.
Warangal police said they resolved the “kidnap drama” quickly using standard tracking methods and brought the matter to a close.
