Hyderabad: Telangana Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir and Minister D Seethakka led a major welfare push in Kamareddy on July 29, launching ration cards and women’s schemes aimed at food security, education, housing and employment.
He said Telangana now leads the country in food security, having issued ration cards to 93 lakh out of 1.15 crore families. Each person receives 6 kg of fine rice free every month.
He called the distribution “a record in Indian welfare history,” especially for families that waited over a decade. Officials are issuing cards in village sabhas and plan to cover all eligible households.
Shabbir spotlighted the Indiramma housing scheme and Aarogyasri healthcare as core efforts to build a fair and secure society. The government sanctioned 3,500 Indiramma homes for the Kamareddy constituency and extended Rajiv Aarogyasri coverage to 93 lakh families, with healthcare worth up to ₹10 lakh per family.
He also confirmed that 51 lakh families now receive 200 units of electricity each month without charge.

Minister Seethakka emphasized the Akshara Lakshmi programme, which ensures basic education for women in self-help groups (SHGs). She encouraged more SHGs to form and promised ₹10 lakh life insurance per member.
She asked members to repay loans on time to qualify for larger sums. Women building Indiramma homes are eligible for up to ₹1 lakh in loans. SHGs are also managing petrol bunks and electric buses through the Mahila Samaikhya scheme.
Livelihood Support Through Uniform Orders
To support incomes, the government assigned SHGs the task of stitching uniforms for government school students. Officials also plan to route private school uniform orders to these groups.
Seethakka stated the Congress-led government under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy allocated ₹2,862 crore in the budget for women and child welfare. She described the Indira Mahila Shakti scheme as a “boon for rural women” and restated the commitment to the party’s six poll guarantees.
Commitments to Backward Classes and Local Governance
The minister confirmed that the state had forwarded the BC Declaration to the Governor and promised BC reservations in the upcoming local body polls.
Later, Seethakka and Shabbir led a review meeting at the Nizamabad Collectorate with district officials and public representatives. They reviewed Bhubharati land reforms, ration card distribution, housing and health schemes. MLAs Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Bhoopathi Reddy, Sudarshan Reddy, Suryanarayana, Rakesh Reddy, and Urdu Academy Chairman Taher Bin Handan attended the session.
Both leaders reiterated that the Congress government aims to build a Telangana model rooted in equity and empowerment.
