Hyderabad: In a shocking case of alleged dowry harassment, a 33-year-old woman from Khammam district died after enduring years of abuse at the hands of her husband and his family in Aswaraopeta, Kothagudem district.
The victim, Lakshmiprasanna of Vishwanathapuram village in Kalluru mandal, married Poola Naresh Babu from Khan Khanpet in 2015. For the past three years, the couple had been living in Aswaraopeta.
On Saturday, Naresh Babu informed Lakshmiprasanna’s parents that she had fallen from the roof and was taken to hospital. However, the parents were horrified to find her body emaciated, with broken bones and visible fresh and old wounds.

Suspecting foul play, the family filed a police complaint. They alleged that Naresh Babu’s family had confined Lakshmiprasanna to a room for nearly two years, denying them all contact with her. According to them, she was subjected to regular beatings and starvation, and ultimately killed for dowry.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
