Hyderabad, February 4: A tragic incident occurred in Eluru district, Andhra Pradesh, where a woman died after undergoing an MRI scan at a private diagnostic centre. The woman, who had a pacemaker implanted for a heart condition, was not screened for metal implants before the scan.
According to reports, the MRI machine’s radiation caused the pacemaker to malfunction, leading to the woman’s death. Her attendant, present inside the scanning room, pleaded with the staff to stop the machine when she showed distress. However, the staff allegedly ignored the warning.
After the scan was completed, the woman showed no signs of movement and was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The diagnostic centre staff claimed she died of cardiac arrest, which enraged her relatives. They staged a protest outside the centre, demanding action against the management.
The police have since registered a case and shut down the diagnostic centre.
