Hyderabad: Saidabad Police arrested a 48-year-old woman for murdering her relative and stealing silver ornaments in a planned crime for personal gain. The accused, Nenavath Manga, was taken into custody on Wednesday for killing 70-year-old Katroth Shivaiah on the night of September 14.
According to police, she attacked the victim around 12:30 a.m. while he was sleeping alone in an under-construction house at Vishnu Nagar. He was reportedly intoxicated at the time. Police said the woman first suffocated him with a pillow, then used plastic thread to strangle him.
Murder triggered by family feud and financial disputes
Manga, the niece-in-law of the deceased’s wife, lived in the same neighbourhood. Police revealed she introduced one Venkatesh for house construction, which led to a financial loss of ₹8.25 lakh for the victim’s family. Frequent quarrels followed, especially between the victim and his younger daughter with Manga.
Police also said Manga was in a relationship with Venkatesh after her husband’s death. She faced pressure from unpaid EMIs on a two-wheeler purchased in her name. On the afternoon of the incident, she had a heated argument with the victim’s wife over stove smoke. When the victim publicly insulted her during the quarrel, she decided to retaliate.
Accused strangled victim, stole ornaments, and hid them at home
Later that night, she killed Shivaiah while he was asleep. She removed two silver kadiyalu and a silver waist chain from his body and hid them in a red rice tin at her residence.
The next morning, the victim’s elder daughter filed a police complaint. Officers registered a case under Cr. No. 300/2025 U/s 103(1), 309(6) BNS and launched an investigation. Forensic teams seized key evidence from the scene, including the pillow and the plastic thread.
Confession leads to recovery of stolen silver
On September 18, police apprehended Manga. During questioning, she confessed to the crime. Based on her statement, police recovered the stolen silver, weighing 30 tulas, from her home in the presence of mediators.
Officers produced her before court and secured judicial custody. DCP South East Zone Chaitnya Kumar supervised the operation, along with Addl. DCP K. Srikanth, ACP S. Venkat Reddy, Inspector B. Chandra Mohan, SI B. Gnaneshwar, and Saidabad police staff.
