HYDERABAD: In a horrifying incident at Gajasingavaram village in Gambhiraopet mandal of Siricilla district, a woman named Rekha was brutally murdered by her neighbour Srikanth, who later died by suicide.
The incident occurred when Rekha, whose husband is currently employed in Dubai, went to the house of Srikanth, who lives next door. With Srikanth’s wife away at her parental home, he attempted to assault Rekha. Although he used to address her as his sister, Srikanth tried to outrage her modesty. When Rekha resisted his advances, he attacked her with a sickle, inflicting deep bite-like injuries on her body, leading to her death.
Overcome by fear and guilt following the murder, Srikanth subsequently took his own life. The gruesome act has caused severe unrest in the village, with residents expressing outrage over the betrayal of trust by someone who was considered like a brother.
Police have shifted both bodies to the Siricilla Area Hospital for post-mortem examinations as part of the investigation.
