Hyderabad: A women’s federation-run petrol bunk in Narayanpet district earned a profit of ₹15.50 lakh within six months of operations, marking a milestone in the Indira Mahila Shakti policy. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy inaugurated the facility on February 21. It stands as the first women’s federation-managed petrol bunk in the country.
Women empowerment petrol bunk posts six-month profit
The district women’s federation built the outlet at a cost of ₹1.30 crore at Singaram X Road, Narayanpet. It operates under a 20-year lease agreement with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), paying a monthly rent of ₹10,000.
Before taking up duties, eleven women—including a manager and sales staff—received training at Jadcherla and Shadnagar petrol bunks. In addition, the government spent ₹15 lakh on infrastructure facilities. As a result, the bunk now records daily sales of 4,000 litres of petrol and 6,000 litres of diesel.
Salaries, reviews and training ensure smooth operations
Ten saleswomen at the bunk earn a salary of ₹13,200 each, while the manager draws ₹18,000 per month. The District Collector reviews the operations once every 15 days, following the Chief Minister’s instructions.
Petrol bunk manager Chandrakala explained that the unit achieved the profit figure after covering salaries and other operational costs.
Federation milestone in women’s entrepreneurship
The Narayanpet District Mahila Federation comprises 91,369 members spread across 8,196 women’s self-help groups (SHGs). Many members once relied on small household trades; however, they have now stepped into entrepreneurship.
Officials emphasised that the outlet is India’s first petrol bunk to be managed entirely by a SHG woman, making it a significant step in women’s economic empowerment.
