Hyderabad: Villagers in Chowdarpalli of Yacharam mandal alleged large-scale forgery of signatures that defrauded women’s self-help groups of nearly ₹1 crore. The members claimed they had repaid loans in full, yet bank officials insisted the debts remained unsettled.
According to residents, forged signatures were used without the knowledge of members from at least 25 women’s groups, including Gauri, Tirumala, Durga Bai, Harathi, Sairam, Mallanna, Srinidhi and Manikantha DWCRA collectives. Protesters alleged that the local bookkeeper and the SBI branch manager colluded to misappropriate the funds.

The affected women staged a protest outside the SBI branch, blocking banking operations and demanding immediate redress. They said the repayment slips they held were genuine, yet bank officials claimed the stamps were not affixed by the branch. They vowed to continue their agitation until the manager addressed them directly and action was taken against those responsible.
