Hyderabad: Demanding a stronger voice in Telangana’s political and administrative landscape, representatives from Yadav groups, including Gollas and Kurumas, met Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Thursday evening, calling for proportional representation in both government and party posts.
Led by Government Whip Beerla Ilaiah, the delegation submitted a memorandum at Dr BR Ambedkar Praja Bhavan, emphasising the need to acknowledge the numerical and social weight of their communities. With over 22 lakh Gollas and 6 lakh Kurumas across the state, Ilaiah urged the Deputy CM to ensure that these traditionally pastoral communities are no longer sidelined in political appointments.
The leaders specifically sought inclusion in the state cabinet, nominated posts, and party leadership roles, saying it’s time the government translated its welfare promises into representation on the ground. “Our people contribute significantly to Telangana’s economy and society. But when it comes to power structures, we remain underrepresented,” said Ilaiah.
The delegation included prominent Yadav and Kuruma leaders such as Osmania student JAC leader Lokesh Yadav, Charan Kaushik Yadav, Gauri Satish, Gajji Bhaskar Yadav, Kotha Kuruma Shivakumar, Venugopal Yadav, Jagan Yadav, and Mahipal Yadav, among others. They echoed the call for political recognition and greater institutional presence.
The meeting comes at a time when caste-based representation is back in the spotlight in Telangana, with several communities pressing for equitable inclusion in governance. The Deputy CM was urged to personally take up the matter with the Chief Minister and ensure that the voices of marginalised backward groups are not lost in the political shuffle.
