Telangana heavy rains trigger yellow alert with storm risk and gusty winds in the city and districts
Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for Telangana as heavy rains are expected to persist for the next three days due to a surface circulation and trough over the Bay of Bengal.
Scattered to widespread rainfall has already lashed multiple districts across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. On Monday, Hyderabad saw intense showers from afternoon through evening, inundating major parts of the city.
IMD officials warned of further moderate to heavy rainfall across the state, including Hyderabad, with the possibility of orange alert issuance if trough activity intensifies.
Gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 km/h may accompany the rainfall, alongside thunder and lightning, the department forecasted.
Districts under threat include Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Sangareddy, Medchal–Malkajgiri, Mahbubnagar, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Narayanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Suryapet, Nalgonda, Warangal, Mahabubabad, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Vikarabad, Medak, and Kamareddy.
Officials urged residents to prepare for lightning and steady showers, especially in low-lying areas vulnerable to waterlogging.
