Hyderabad: In a move to mark ten years since the United Nations officially recognised June 21 as International Yoga Day, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy announced that a large-scale celebration will be held on June 20 at LB Stadium in Hyderabad. The event, he said, would begin at 5 am and is open to all who wish to take part in the Yoga Day celebrations.
Addressing a meeting at the BJP city office in Barkatpura on Sunday, Kishan Reddy credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for putting yoga on the global map and said the upcoming event will reflect the global recognition India has received under his leadership. “It was Modi who turned yoga into a worldwide movement. This celebration is a tribute to that achievement,” he noted.
He appealed to citizens across the city to join the early morning session and make the event a success. The festivities are expected to draw a large crowd, with participation from various organisations and fitness enthusiasts.
On a different note, Kishan Reddy also reflected on a darker chapter in Indian political history—the declaration of Emergency by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. With the 50th anniversary of that event approaching, he said the BJP would conduct awareness campaigns and meetings to educate today’s youth about the repression and suffering people endured during those years.
He accused the then Congress government of jailing nationalist voices and subjecting them to inhumane treatment, asserting that the scars of that era remain etched in public memory.
Marking 11 years since Modi took office as Prime Minister, Kishan Reddy said the BJP will also host a range of programmes to commemorate the milestone. He called upon party workers and leaders to ensure active participation in both the yoga celebrations and the broader outreach efforts.
