HYDERABAD: Medak MP and BJP leader Raghunandan Rao has raised serious concerns over the proliferation of unauthorised madrasas in Telangana, alleging illegal activities and foreign national involvement in some of these institutions.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP State Office on Friday, Rao stated that he would be writing to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy demanding details about how many madrasas have been established across the state and how many of them have valid approvals.
He specifically pointed to a madrasa in Jinnaram, located between Sangareddy and Sadashivpet, claiming it houses 70 students, of whom 65 are from Kishanganj, Bihar, and are allegedly taught by teachers from the same region. Kishanganj, he noted, borders Bangladesh, and raised suspicions that Bangladeshi nationals might be receiving training in Telangana under false identities.
“Why would students from such a distant region choose Jinnaram, a small mandal centre, for religious education unless there’s something more to it?” he asked. He added that his personal investigation as a “common citizen” had revealed alarming details, and if police were to probe further, more shocking facts might emerge.
Rao also questioned how a madrasa came up on land reportedly belonging to a Kodandarama Swamy temple, demanding that officials explain the circumstances of land use conversion.
In addition to madrasas, Rao raised the issue of 247 Nepali nationals in Isnapur—also within his constituency—who allegedly received Aadhaar cards illegally. “While the Centre has issued instructions to identify and deport foreign nationals, these irregularities continue unchecked,” he said.
He urged the people of Telangana to remain alert about madrasas operating in their neighbourhoods and added that the issue would soon be taken up with the Governor and Union Home Minister.
