Hyderabad: Energy Department Principal Secretary Naveen Mittal on Monday said Telangana is ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply for Kharif crops despite a sharp surge in demand during the ongoing monsoon season.
He held a video conference with South Telangana Electricity Distribution Company (TGSPDCL) officials, including CMD Musharraf Farooqui and senior engineers, and directed them to remain vigilant.
14% Demand Surge Since Last Year
Mittal cited a 14.05% increase in peak demand compared to last year. “Maximum load on July 31, 2024, was 13,541 MW. This year, on July 16, it hit 15,443 MW,” he said.
He attributed the spike to increased water availability, rapid paddy sowing, and the uninterrupted running of lakhs of agricultural motors. Greater Hyderabad also continues to see heavy consumption across domestic, industrial, and commercial segments.
Government Monitoring Power Sector Closely
He emphasised that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka are prioritising the power sector and tracking supply metrics regularly.
Mittal instructed officials at every level—from CMD to field staff—to stay on alert, particularly during rains. “All staff must remain present in offices during showers to ensure supply continuity,” he said.
Engineering Cadre Mobilised
TGSPDCL Directors Dr. Narasimhulu, Chakrapani, and Krishna Reddy, along with Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers, and Divisional Engineers participated in the session.
They were asked to coordinate intensively and take quick action to prevent outages during the monsoon period.
