Ponnam Prabhakar expresses shock over Kurnool bus mishap, calls for joint action

Hyderabad: Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Friday expressed deep shock over the bus accident that occurred in Kurnool district. In an official statement, he extended condolences to the families of the deceased and said the Telangana government is coordinating all necessary responses.

He said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had inquired into the incident, and the transport department has been directed to act swiftly. Ponnam stated that he had spoken with Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister Mandipalli Ram Prasad Reddy, Kurnool Collector Siri, and SP Vikranth Patil to gather details.

The minister acknowledged that thousands travel daily between Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana. He promised strict preventive measures to ensure such tragedies do not recur. A joint meeting involving transport ministers and commissioners of the three states will be held soon.

He stressed the need to enforce speed limits more rigorously and tighten safety regulations. “When we inspect buses, operators cry harassment. But when we let them go unchecked, accidents like this happen,” he said.

The minister confirmed that an inquiry has been ordered into the accident. He assured that Telangana has already launched immediate support and is monitoring the situation closely.
