Telangana leaders honour educationist Chukka Ramaiah on 100th birthday

Hyderabad: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and senior Telangana leaders on Wednesday honoured veteran educationist Chukka Ramaiah on his 100th birthday. They described him as a pillar of academic reform and an enduring guide to generations of learners.

During a visit to Ramaiah’s residence in Vidyanagar, Minister Prabhakar conveyed birthday greetings on behalf of the state government. He was accompanied by CWC member Gidugu Rudraraju and MLC Narsi Reddy. Also present were Prof. Haragopal, former MLA Kichanna Gari Lakshma Reddy, Madabhushi Sridhar, and other prominent figures.

“Chukka Ramaiah brought true meaning to the phrase Acharya Devo Bhava. We revere him like a parent, and his influence has shaped generations of teachers,” said Prabhakar. “Even at 100, his clarity and memory remain extraordinary. He continues to lead by example.”

Reflecting on his student leadership years, Prabhakar recalled a close personal bond with Ramaiah. He described him as both a mentor and a source of constant motivation. Prabhakar noted that the current government, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, is drawing inspiration from Ramaiah’s ideals. This inspiration is being used to implement meaningful reforms in the education sector.

The minister called on educators to emulate Ramaiah’s lifelong dedication to academic excellence. He praised the centenarian as a model of integrity who championed education even during times of economic hardship.

“In earlier decades, governments could allocate land to support families with limited income. Today, amid fiscal limitations, education stands as the most valuable gift we can offer,” Prabhakar said. “Ramaiah’s life proves that families will prioritise education, even in the face of adversity.”

He announced plans to propose a formal felicitation programme to the Chief Minister. This aims to publicly honour Ramaiah’s century-long contribution to public life.

Sharing a personal memory, Prabhakar recalled how Ramaiah fondly spoke of officiating the wedding of Prof. Haragopal. Ramaiah affectionately referred to Haragopal’s wife Vanamala as his daughter.

“His voice has remained unwavering in support of Telangana’s cause,” the minister added.
