Hyderabad: Dharmapuri MLA Adluri Lakshman was sworn in as a minister in the Telangana cabinet on Sunday, marking a significant milestone in his political career. The oath was administered by Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan (or Jishnu Dev Varma, as reported) at Raj Bhavan, where Lakshman recited his name Adluri Lakshman before formally taking charge.
In his address from the stage, Lakshman thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for the trust placed in him, acknowledging the CM’s decision to ensure representation from the Madiga community in the cabinet.
Lakshman’s induction comes as part of the Congress government’s commitment to inclusivity. Though a first-time MLA, his name emerged as a surprise pick for the cabinet, reflecting the leadership’s intent to give voice to underrepresented communities.
Lakshman, representing Dharmapuri in the Telangana Assembly, entered the legislature after winning his seat in the 2023 elections with a resounding margin of 22,039 votes over BRS candidate Koppula Eshwar. His victory marked his debut as an MLA and quickly saw him appointed as a government whip before his elevation to the cabinet.
His political journey stretches back to his tenure as the chairman of the united Karimnagar Zilla Parishad between 2009 and 2011. He later served as the Jagtial District Congress Committee president, steadily building his profile within the party.
Lakshman’s elevation to the cabinet comes as a double triumph: he not only secured a seat in the Assembly for the first time but also earned a place at the state’s top decision-making table. For the people of Dharmapuri and the Madiga community, his appointment signals a step forward in political representation.
