JAMNAGAR: An Indian Air Force Jaguar fighter jet crashed near Jamnagar in Gujarat on Wednesday night around 9:30 p.m., resulting in the death of one pilot and serious injuries to another.
The aircraft had taken off from the Jamnagar Air Force Station for a routine practice mission. Approximately 12 kilometres from Jamnagar city, the jet went down in an open field near Suvarda village. One of the pilots managed to eject safely, while the other could not escape and died in the crash.
The injured pilot, identified as Manoj Kumar Singh, was rushed to GG Hospital in Jamnagar. Officials later confirmed that his condition is stable.
Following the crash, the aircraft broke into several pieces, which caught fire. Local villagers quickly reached the site, assisted the injured pilot, and alerted the police.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined. Jamnagar’s SP, District Magistrate, and an Air Force team arrived at the scene shortly after receiving information. Fire brigade personnel successfully extinguished the blaze.
District Collector Ketan Thakkar stated that the crash occurred in an open area away from populated zones and confirmed that the fire had been brought under control.
