Hyderabad: In a quick turnaround, Balapur police have cracked a daylight robbery involving ₹29 lakh, arresting four men and recovering nearly the entire amount.
The arrested suspects—Syed Abdul Khadar (34), Habeed Haroon (41), Vardhan (34), and Rasikanth Bardan alias Kittu (31)—were picked up by crime teams from the Rachakonda Commissionerate. Officers also seized ₹28.2 lakh in cash, a motorcycle, and several mobile phones tied to the heist. A fifth suspect, Rasheed Khan, remains at large.
The plot began when Mohammed Zakeer of Santosh Nagar arranged to send ₹29 lakh to his son-in-law for a land deal, using a trusted intermediary. With the recipient out of town, the cash was handed over temporarily to Khadar, an acquaintance of Zakeer’s son.
That trust, it turns out, was misplaced. Police say Khadar, along with his uncle Habeed Haroon, orchestrated the robbery with three others. After tracking the courier’s movements, the group used a fake Google Maps location to lure him into a poorly lit stretch in Errakunta.
As the courier and his friend Habeebullah reached the spot, Rasheed and Rasikanth arrived on a black Pulsar bike, beat them with sticks, and made off with the cash-filled briefcase.
Khadar took charge of the stolen cash soon after the heist, giving ₹20,000 each to his co-accused and hiding the rest at home, telling them they’d get their full share in due course.
It didn’t take long for investigators to stitch the story together. Working off multiple leads, they tracked down the suspects and booked them under Cr. No. 215/2025, applying sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation was led by Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu, with DCP Sunitha Reddy and officers from the Maheshwaram Zone at the helm.
