Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Thursday reaffirmed the Congress government’s commitment to public welfare and fiscal accountability. He was addressing a massive public meeting at Mudigonda mandal in Madhira constituency, Khammam district.
He criticised the previous administration, saying its leaders had claimed the state would collapse without them. In contrast, he asserted that the Congress government built a power system strong enough to meet rising demand. It also continues to deliver free electricity schemes.
“It was the Congress that generated power, gave farmers free electricity, and now provides 200 units of free power to domestic consumers,” he said.
Congress government public welfare includes housing and power initiatives
Bhatti highlighted the Indiramma housing programme. He said beneficiaries would receive funds faster if they completed construction promptly. Recalling his statewide Padayatra before the election, he spoke about meeting thousands who shared their hardships. Among them was Priyanka, a girl from Mudigonda, who lacked housing. She has now received a home, he said.
According to Bhatti, 3,500 houses per Assembly constituency totalling 4.5 lakh units are being built in the first phase. He said he had personally interacted with beneficiaries before the event.
He stated that the Congress government is spending every rupee responsibly. He warned that misusing public money is extremely dangerous.
Education reforms and women’s empowerment also part of welfare focus
On education, he said the state is investing to help children compete globally. Mess charges have increased by 20%, and cosmetic charges by 200%, based on current market rates. He also announced Young India Integrated Residential Schools one per Assembly constituency each on 25 acres with a total investment of ₹2,500 crore.
Bhatti added that to support women’s empowerment, the government is offering interest-free loans. It aims to help one crore women become millionaires in five years. “We want every woman to live with dignity,” he said.
