Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu will travel to Chandigarh on Sunday evening to pay tributes to IPS officer Puran Kumar and meet his bereaved family. The visit follows the officer’s shocking death, which has drawn national attention.
According to reports, Puran Kumar, who hailed from Barkatpura in Hyderabad, allegedly died by suicide after facing caste-based discrimination and public humiliation from senior officers, including the DGP and seven others. Bhatti described the incident as deeply disturbing and said it exposed the grim reality of social injustice within top administrative ranks.
He added that if a senior officer of Additional DGP rank cannot escape caste bias under BJP rule, it reflects the dire state of equality and justice for ordinary citizens. “The suicide of IPS officer Puran Kumar stands as a tragic example of how deeply rooted caste discrimination remains in the system,” Bhatti said before leaving for Chandigarh.
