T-BJP chief accuses Congress of betraying disabled community in Telangana

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao on Tuesday accused the Congress government of betraying people with disabilities by ignoring key welfare promises made during the last assembly election campaign.

He met several representatives from the disabled community at his office and listened to their grievances. Expressing concern, Rao alleged that the Congress, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, had failed to raise pensions or provide assistive equipment, as previously assured.

Community members said their pensions still remain at ₹4,000, despite the Congress pledge to increase the amount to ₹6,000. They also pointed out that the government had not distributed mobility aids or implemented a promised special employment quota.

Rao, joined by BJP Divyang Cell State Convenor Kolli Nageshwar Rao, outlined several central welfare schemes led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These include free distribution of tricycles and hearing aids, a 4 percent job quota in central government posts, and loan assistance through the National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC).

He assured the gathering that the BJP remains committed to dignity, equality, and rights for persons with disabilities. He urged them to support the party in the upcoming Jubilee Hills by-election and hold the Congress accountable for its lapses.

Earlier in the day, Rao visited Sringeri Shankara Math in Nallakunta. He offered prayers to Sri Shardamba Ammavaru and received blessings from Jagadguru Sri Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Sannidhanam, pontiff of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham. BJP leader Maheshwar Reddy and others accompanied him during the visit.
