Hyderabad: Police on Monday arrested BRS leader and Rajendranagar in-charge Karthik Reddy during a protest demanding the continuation of the Hyderabad Airport Metro project. He staged the demonstration with party cadres near the foundation stone laid earlier for Phase-II works.
According to police, Reddy and other BRS leaders sat in protest at Shamshabad, insisting that the government resume second-phase metro works up to the international airport. Narsingi police detained them at Mindspace in Madhapur and shifted them to the station.
BRS protests over cancelled Hyderabad Airport Metro project
The project, designed during the previous BRS government, carried an estimated cost of ₹24,200 crore. Plans covered 63 kilometres, connecting Gachibowli, Shamshabad airport, and several major residential hubs, with an interchange station proposed at Raidurg.
However, after the change in government, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s administration cancelled the Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) project. BRS leaders have since accused the Congress government of stalling critical urban transport expansion.
