Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader Shaik Abdullah Sohail on Monday hit out at the Telangana government for handing the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) case to the CBI. He called the move a display of weakness and a betrayal of Congress’s own ideology.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced the decision in the Assembly on Sunday after a marathon debate on the P.C. Ghose Commission report. Sohail alleged that the Chief Minister, unable to withstand political pressure, leaned on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for protection.
“When someone feels weak, they look to the powerful. That’s exactly what Revanth Reddy did,” Sohail said, mocking the CM’s dependence on the Centre.
Sohail questions Congress’s ideological clarity
The BRS leader reminded that even AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi had described the Ghose Commission’s report as confusing. He noted that BRS leader T. Harish Rao was left to defend the party alone against eight ministers, which in his view forced Revanth into a rash decision.
Sohail accused Congress of hypocrisy, citing Rahul Gandhi’s repeated claims that CBI, ED and ECI act as BJP tools. “Rahul Gandhi keeps saying these agencies are puppets of Modi, Shah and RSS. Then how can their own Chief Minister hand Kaleshwaram to the same CBI?” he asked.
He further argued that the Congress must decide whether it follows the legacy of Indira and Rajiv Gandhi or chooses the path of RSS and BJP. “For the first time since leaving Congress, I thank Revanth Reddy. He has exposed who is truly aligned with Modi and Shah,” Sohail said.
Warns of political backlash
Sohail insisted that KCR, Harish Rao and K.T. Rama Rao would not be cowed by the probe. “BJP already tried this when Kavitha was arrested. He didn’t bow then, and he won’t bow now,” he said.
He predicted that the decision would politically damage Congress. “This marks the beginning of Revanth Reddy’s downfall. The people, especially in the Jubilee Hills by-election, will prove he is unfit to lead Telangana,” Sohail warned.
