CBI begins preliminary inquiry into Kaleshwaram project corruption case

Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) launched a preliminary inquiry on Thursday into alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project. The move marks a significant turn in Telangana’s political landscape.

Following a request from the Telangana government, the CBI began gathering information on suspected corruption, fund misuse, and procedural violations linked to the project. Investigating officers are reviewing key documents to decide whether the case qualifies for a full investigation.

Officials are also studying the reports submitted by the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) and Justice PC Ghosh Commission. Both reports pointed to serious flaws in the execution of the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project.

If sufficient evidence is found, the CBI is likely to register an FIR and proceed with a detailed investigation.

BRS under pressure as CBI steps in

The CBI’s involvement in the high-cost irrigation project has triggered anxiety within the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). The party led the project during its time in power.

The Ghosh Commission had already held former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao directly responsible for key decisions. It blamed his actions for structural failures and losses to the state exchequer.

Political analysts believe the latest developments may lead to direct questioning of the former CM. The probe could have major implications for the BRS leadership as it moves forward.
