Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Wednesday congratulated Congress MPs from Telangana for exposing the state’s urea shortage in Parliament, saying their protest directly led to the Centre clearing a fresh supply of 50,000 metric tonnes of urea.
In a statement, Tummala said the Centre’s Department of Fertilizers approved the shipment following pressure from Telangana’s parliamentarians. He revealed that 10,800 metric tonnes of urea had already begun moving from Karnataka, offering relief to farmers struggling amid peak cropping season.
He added that three more consignments would follow this week, with Coromandel International Limited tasked with supply operations. The minister called it “good news” for farmers and credited the success to coordinated efforts under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s leadership.
Tummala urged farmers to stay vigilant against political misinformation. He accused opposition parties of exploiting the crisis for self-interest and reminded that the delays were due to the Centre’s discriminatory treatment, not state government inaction.
He reaffirmed that the Congress government would always stand with Telangana’s farmers and work to ensure timely access to crop inputs.
