Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday raised alarm over the growing erosion of journalistic ethics, likening the decline in media credibility to the waning public trust in political leadership.
Speaking at the 10th anniversary celebrations of Nava Telangana, held at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram, Bagh Lingampalli, Revanth said journalism today faces an “unfortunate trend” of unqualified individuals exploiting social media to pose as journalists.
“People who don’t even write the Telugu alphabet are calling themselves journalists, roaming the streets, speaking obscenely, and claiming press credentials,” he said. “Veteran journalists must reject such elements and at least not share space with them.”
Addressing a packed audience that included Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, CM Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, and CPM leaders BV Raghavulu and John Wesley, the Chief Minister urged the professional press community to reaffirm its ethical foundation.
Revanth Reddy, while praising Communists for their critical lens on government functioning, recalled their role in supporting the Congress-led victory in the 2004 general elections. He remarked that Communists are “equally useful in opposing anti-people policies or unseating those in power.”
Former CPM state secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram and ex-MLA Julakanti Ranga Reddy were also present at the event.
