Hyderabad: The Congress high command has begun the final round of deliberations to appoint District Congress Committee (DCC) chiefs in Telangana, with a focus on ensuring representation for BC, SC, ST, and minority communities.
Party sources indicated that more than half of the 35 DCC posts would be allotted to these groups. The leadership is also considering the implementation of 42% reservation for BCs during the selection process. To base selections on public sentiment, the Congress appointed observers who submitted shortlisted names. State leaders are now providing feedback on these recommendations.
AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal led the key meeting in Delhi on Saturday at the party headquarters, Indira Bhavan. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, PCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud, and other top leaders including Meenakshi Natarajan, Viswanathan, Vamshi Chand Reddy, and MP Shashikant Senthil participated.
Observers ranked candidates for DCC chiefs in Telangana
K.C. Venugopal held both individual and collective discussions with state leaders from 3 to 5 PM. Each DCC had at least six shortlisted names submitted by AICC observers. The high command directed leaders to rank these candidates by priority, with selections likely to favour those consistently top-ranked.
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, who could not attend in person, conveyed his opinions over phone and was also asked to submit written feedback. The leadership made it clear that lobbying and personal recommendations would not influence decisions. Instead, it would prioritise social justice and organisational strength.
Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka told reporters that the meeting aimed to strengthen the party institutionally in Telangana. Mahesh Kumar Goud added that the final list of DCC presidents could be released by month-end, emphasising the role of social engineering and inclusive leadership. K.C. Venugopal later shared details and photos from the meeting on X.
