Hyderabad: CPI leader K. Narayana came down heavily on the chief ministers of both Telugu states on Thursday, accusing them of ignoring socially relevant cinema while promoting violent and negative content. In a post on X, Narayana demanded that governments extend subsidies to R. Narayana Murthy’s latest message-driven film that deals with the struggles of students and unemployed youth.
He said Murthy had made an informative film addressing the harmful effects of leaks and exam irregularities, and accused both Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of turning a blind eye to such meaningful work. “They should be ashamed,” Narayana remarked.
The CPI leader criticised state subsidies being granted to films promoting crime, red sandalwood smuggling, and black money while films made in public interest received no support. “People are disgusted,” he said, “when governments fund the glorification of violence but ignore films that serve society.”
Narayana demanded justice for Murthy and urged both governments to step up and back cinema that reflects real issues. The video has triggered strong support online, with many netizens urging Telugu states to support socially conscious filmmaking.
