Cyberabad police bust ‘cash barish’ gang, seize ₹8.5 lakh and weapons

Hyderabad: Cyberabad police cracked a cheating racket that duped people through a fake ritual called “cash barish.” Officers arrested four members of the gang and seized ₹8.5 lakh in cash, a country-made weapon, and a knife.

The Dundigal police registered the case under Cr.No. 1043/2025 U/s 123, 318(4), 303(2) r/w 3(5) BNS. Investigators identified Mohammad Irfan (44), a sofa worker from Bahadurpura, as the main accused. He had earlier been involved in cases at Uppal and Nizamabad police stations.

In addition, police arrested Gugoloth Ravindhar (40), a makeup artist from Film Nagar; Kavira Sai Baba (41), a courier delivery boy from Suraram; and Thakur Manohar Singh (39), a washerman from Khairtabad. The gang worked under the guidance of Abdul Kayyoom, a native of Uttar Pradesh who remains on the run.

Cyberabad police cash barish fraud: how the gang operated

According to investigators, the gang targeted gullible victims and promised to multiply their money through a “barish pooja.” They asked victims to bring cash for the ritual and then offered sweets and badam milk mixed with intoxicants as “prasadam.” As soon as the victims lost consciousness, the gang escaped with their money.

Moreover, police recovered ₹8.5 lakh, a country-made firearm, and a knife from Mohammad Irfan. They also booked him under the Arms Act. Authorities suspect the gang operated in several districts using the same method to cheat people.
