Hyderabad: Gas consumers will soon get major relief. The central government is preparing to allow inter-company portability for LPG connections. The new facility will let customers shift their gas link to any supplier as easily as changing a mobile SIM.
If service delays or issues arise, users can replace not just the local agency but the gas company itself. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) confirmed it is advancing the policy. The board has already sought feedback from consumers, LPG firms, and other stakeholders.
Gas connection portability plan
PNGRB said it would frame procedures and rules after reviewing suggestions. It will announce the rollout date for the new system once the framework is ready.
Gas connection portability is not new. The government tested it in 24 districts in 2013. It later expanded the service to 480 districts in 13 states in 2014. That system allowed switching only within the same company’s agencies. The new plan will now give consumers full freedom to move to any LPG supplier in the country.
